Our friends at Mixcloud asked us to contribute a mix to their Celebration of Curation month, and we gladly obliged. It was a great opportunity to put down the computer keyboards and dust off the good old 1′s and 2′s, along with all that fancy digital stuff that you connect to them these days, and get down with some mixing and mashing. So here is what we came up with: a mix of classic breaks, heavily sampled originals, favourite sample-based joints and some weird and wonderful cover songs. We’ve tried to dodge the obvious stuff while keeping it old skool, notably by paying tribute to “Synthetic Substitution”, the classic song (and killer breakbeat) by Melvin Bliss, who died last month. And of course we haven’t forgotten the sample that’s been ranked #1 for a while now by our community. Generally speaking we’ve stuck to Hip-Hop and its origins, but Electronic music fans will also find some surprisingly familiar samples in there.
We hope you enjoy the mix – please let us know how you like it in the comments below!
Nice Intro….And Yes This Is a journey…through time moments and secrets of our souls when each sample was etched in your ear hole. Nothing beats a good beat and when the artist/producer decides to dig in the crates I appreciate the work it is a work that is in progress and Progresses from ear to ear…Love this work Here Thanks much Lydia H
Absolutely outstanding.
Can we dload the entire mix, not just track by track?
This mix was made exclusively for Mixcloud, and can only be streamed from their site.
