WhoSampled is 2 years old today. On October 1st 2008, we’ve quietly opened our tiny samples database with around 200 tracks listed. It’s astonishing to see that just two years later, we list over 64,000 songs and 26,000 artists – by far the most comprehensive, detailed and accurate resource about sampling ever created.
And we haven’t achieved it alone. To date, we’ve had over 3,000 contributors, and have an ever-expanding team of nearly 50 moderators who look after the accuracy of all content submitted. We have over 15,000 registered users and have been visited by over 2 million people over the last two years. The site has received some fantastic coverage from journalists and bloggers, is getting loads of support from visitors and artists on a daily basis, and was recently selected as one of PC Magazine’s Top 100 Sites of 2010. We’re humbled.
Over the last few months, we’ve added several exciting features to the site:
- Tagging of any song, allowing anyone to browse the database for US #1 Hits, One-Hit Wonders, Video Game music, East Coast Hip-Hop or songs in Spanish, for example. The list goes on – we currently have over 800 tags listed
- We now list remixes as well as samples and cover songs, allowing a more comprehensive view of the different relationships between songs and artists
- Producer and remixer information for every track, so that you can browse the database by producers as well as artists
- A new search engine that makes search results quicker and more relevant, and new sorting options on artist pages
We’re working hard on adding more exciting features to the site, and new content is being added at the highest pace ever, so make sure you come back regularly!

I finding out more about the history of music through the art of sampling.I don’t go past a day without stopping by and coming across a recording that I heard the sampling of but not knowing the orgins of it.This had really broden my horizons!Keep up the great work!
