Legitmix: a New Development in the World of Sampled Music

Legitmix

With the assistance of an all star cast of producers and artists including the likes of Diplo, Dave Nada and El-P, our friends at tech startup Legitmix have been road-testing their brand new website, which allows users to easily share mixes, remixes and edits that include copyrighted material, and monetise them in a manner which credits and pays both the original artists and the creator of the mix.

Legitmix recently launched the service to the public with a remix competition in conjunction with seasoned record digger, DJ and producer Kon of famed duo Kon & Amir. Having kept many of his in-demand edits under wraps until he found a legitimate means of releasing them, Kon has been vocal about the opportunity that Legitmix provides:

“With Legitmix, remixer and sampled artist get credited and paid and everything is worked out with technology… That’s what edits and remixes should be about, a seamless partnership between producers and the artists they sample.”

To see what Legitmix is capable of, take a look at this track El-p created with a sample of the band Rush.

If you like the sound of the creative opportunities Legitmix offers, why not have a go yourself? This video tells you all you need to know to get started:
